Nigeria recorded 717 rape cases in 5 months according to the Nigerian police. 799 suspects were arrested. 631 of those cases have been investigated and charged to court but there have been no convictions. HM charged and us all to do more.

HM also commended the Nigerian Governor’s Forum for its resolve to declare a state of Emergency on Rape. And its plans to set up a Sex Offenders’ Register.

HM commended the ongoing efforts of to stem the scourge of rape. The naming and shaming of rapists through the publication of their names is a good step but she believes that we need stronger legislation and political will to prosecute rapists.

She said "As a woman and mother, this issue has given me sleepless nights because as the DG noted in a news report I read last week, rape is not a gender specific crime. Male and female are affected especially minors ."

She also highlighted the Annual Flood Outlook (AFO) released by the Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency (NIHSA) on the 28th May 2020. The Annual Flood Outlook has predicted flood in over 10 LGAs of Kogi State

HM used the opportunity to draw the attention of His Excellency's to the yearly Seasonal Rainfall Prediction (SRP) released by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency on 24th January 2020.

The distribution of fertilizer is the final phase of Federal Government assistance to the farmers to enable them recover from the losses suffered in order to alleviate poverty and empower them.

The intervention was approved in 2019 & the implementation commenced with verification of affected farmers which was closely followed by the distribution of farm inputs and seeds.

They briefed HE Gov. Yahaya Bello on their mission to the state to flag off the distribution of fertilizers approved by Mr President, under the Emergency Agricultural Intervention programme for farmers affected by conflicts and flood in 2018.
