For years, Borderlands scholars have warned about the border becoming a "zone of exception" where normal constitutional protections do not apply. We are now witnessing some of the consequences of this policy (a short thread).

So I wanna go through what I saw in Brooklyn last night. I was with a group of a few hundred protestors. They marched peacefully, actively deescalating & avoiding cops after 8pm. Then they went to Cadman plaza, walking right into what I can only describe as a strategic nightmare.

A great, simple graphic on 8 policies that could change deaths in US policing. (For UK lawyers it’s quite a shock to see how some things we’d take for granted like ‘exhausting other options before shooting’ aren’t a legal requirement in all US states).

Wirecard put out a statement after the market last night. Neil Campling at Mirabaud notes that decisions on Dax membership are due to be taken today, and Wirecard is the only member without audited results for 2019. Those are due in two weeks.

THREAD: As a former Op-Ed editor I am reluctant to weigh in on my alma mater. But the decision to publish calling for troop deployments to quell unrest falls short of sound journalistic practice.

In law school, we had to complete a "substantial writing" of 10k words to graduate. Mine was about police union contracts & the use of force. I wrote it in 2016 but never published it. Sharing some of what I learned (not updated for '20 & by no means am I right or authoritative)

For those praising Trump’s “bravery”. In 1970 Nixon got up at 4.00 in the morning, went over to the Lincoln Memorial, and spent two hours debating the anti-war protestors face to face. No one got bludgeoned or tear-gassed.
