One can only deduce by Senate Republicans’ decision tonight to join Trump’s cover-up that they’re willing to enable his corruption if it helps them maintain power. They’ve abandoned the public interest, weakened our system of checks and balances, and should be held accountable.

I was a Republican until just last year. I thought - maybe this can be turned around, maybe the Republican Party can … well, it can't. It can't. And won't. And I can't be part of it. I make this pledge - no votes for any Republican so long as Trump is President.

Honestly, I did not in 2016 foresee the Republicans’ wholesale repudiation of the rule of law, the separation of powers, & American democracy itself.
The framers were visionaries, but even they could not imagine this level disloyalty, corruption & cravenness.
