Ned, when we're talking scenarios where sfc pressure changes, of course whatever effect being discussed can be traced back to the hypothetical increase in pressure. You assert that sfc temp is maintained by pressure without presenting any physical mechanism for this work.

If sfc pressure increases and composition of atm stays the same, there is by definition more co2 mass in atm. The increase in IR active gasses causes more downwelling IR.

lol both, mass of IR active gasses. if we go from 1013 to 1100 by only adding nitrogen, no change in temp cause energy balance at sfc remains same.

If atmospheric composition remains same with higher pressure, sfc temp would not remain same due to greater downwelling IR radiation
