Many, many happy returns, Dave - you are a truly admirable cricketer. In 2012, when a 7yo Shaw turned out for us, the range of ages in the match was 69 years. What a great game cricket is for bringing the generations together.

Would have been a great evening for our T20 and a beer in the garden of the Cannon Inn afterwards. Here are a couple of photos to remind us that it's not always blazing sunshine when we play cricket in Devon.

Our now-traditional end-of-tour match at Morebath today. Ever accommodating, they once brushed the water from the artificial pitch to ensure we could play. Matches always good fun there too.

This would have been day 3 of our North Devon tour and our annual visit to the spectacular Valley of the Rocks for a game with the very hospitable . The photos show our team in 2005 and Danny after his maiden 50 in 2017.

Cheriton Fitzpaine again?! A third visit in eight days!? At least our frequent visits mean that we've learned how to navigate the labyrinth of roads surrounding the ground. (Perhaps Nick G would be the unusually chatty minotaur at its centre.)

A second trip to the magical today. The shorter boundaries are overlooked by a healthy amount of vegetation, so expect to spend some time searching for lost balls and fishing them out of Wray Brook with the specially constructed ball scoop.

Cheriton Fitzpaine again today - this time to play CF themselves. One year, we enjoyed watching the locals warm-up by ushering some rogue sheep from the field, and it was expertly done. The photo shows Jonathan warming up in more familiar fashion in 2016.

This evening we would have played Yeoford in the Cheriton Fitzpaine League of Friends. One Yeoford CC website mentions their 1st XV, which might explain why they keep beating us. The photo shows Jeff in the Cheriton scorebox in 2016.

Our second match of 2020 today - we really appreciate invitations to visit teams twice a year. Photos are from 2005 but let's recall our exciting games in 2015: we tied the first with a six off the last ball, and won the second by one run after Ben broke his jaw.

Today's fixture is who have developed superb facilities since reforming in 2013. We were delighted to be their second opponent thanks to local Erratic (below right at Denbury in 2012) and have enjoyed our annual meetings ever since.

Today it's . They're our longest standing opponents (W34 L37 D33) and some Erratics have joint affiliation, so matches are keen contests. Great hospitality too, so we love spending time there, even when their youngsters are thumping our bowling in to the next field.

Very sad not to be travelling to Chulmleigh CC today, where and others have done a lot to grow cricket in mid-Devon. The ground is lovely, with its thatched shed, boundary fence and long views. There'd be no trace today of that sometimes biting wind, either.

Lympstone CC this evening, but would we have been at the prep school (below) or up at the archery club with its clouds of midges? And would we have been at The Globe or The Swan afterwards? Either way, it would have been a lively and sociable game with the enthusiastic villagers.

That's more like it! Don't mean to rub it in but do you have our bowling figures from this game? We're missing them. Our captain remembers changing the bowling several times in the hope that you'd stop giving your wickets away but to no avail!

Beauty is doubtful. It was an impressive stand - we thought IT might reach 200 at one point.

Yes, a great game. We're slightly worried that GH will forever more seek his revenge against us for this one.

Our report of this match will be just one of many appearing in the third volume of our history (really), due out later this summer.
