Want to know why it’s complicated to file your taxes? Because Turbo Tax successfully lobbies against making filing our taxes easier. Or free.
Using lobbying, the revolving door and “dark pattern” customer tricks, Intuit fended off the government’s attempts to make tax filing free and easy, and created its multi-billion-dollar franchise.

That and the fact that Dayton voted against Minnesota tax conformity in 2018. This year thanks to the Trump tax reforms and finally the state of Minnesota got tax conformity done so I can just claim the standard deduction like 90%+ of federal filers.

Paper returns are still accepted by the IRS, optional overnight delivery. Most people won't wait 6 weeks for their returns. I file paper returns and will do so until there is free electronic filing hosted by IRS.
