Mom, was it poetry you and Charles Manson read? I thought it was liner notes in the front seat of a car?

John knew. He just didn't tell me for 3 months. I loved that house and the yard, but after I found out what happened there, I was always terrified.

The address had been changed in 1978 when I moved there with John Savage. John never told me about our house for 3 months. When he finally told me, I was terrified living there. Rudy Altobelli was away in Italy and when he returned, we moved to the guest house.

Important fact check from my Mom: She played Susan Atkins the killer, not Sharon!

yes, and he didn't change any of the furniture. My Mom has a great story about cooking Thanksgiving dinner there and not finding any knives to cut the turkey. When she asked him why he was like, well, we had knives, but then these psychos broke in and used them to murder people

but honestly i think the real answer is that people only ever write profiles of the men from that era, and though my mom was there and was working she wasn't as famous as the men around her and has been written out of their stories

(Editor's note: it wasn't a mansion. It only had a few bedrooms, plus the back guest house. Apologies for the error. I always imagine it as a mansion.)

You'd have to ask her. It was owned by her boyfriend's manager, Rudi Altobelli. He moved them in and he didn't mention it until they'd been living there for months.

If you want to movie about gender dynamics and violence and intrigue and the real Hollywood of that era, it should be the story of my mom's life, tbh.

My mom has a real-life story better than this script. Manson picked her up hitch-hiking, they hung out, later she starred as Sharon Tate in a play about the murders, then she unwittingly moved into the mansion where Tate was murdered.
