According to a friend in Kanaker, Air Force Intelligence arrested an elderly woman, the wife of a man arrested in September 2011 for peacefully protesting, whose fate remains unknown, along with 3 of her daughters & her granddaughter.

Article 38 of the Syrian constitution: "No citizen may be deported from the country, or prevented from returning to it." Yet int'l powers have wasted almost 2 years on the constitutional committee process. Even if it produces any change in the constitution, it'll mean nothing.

A brutal 3 months for Iranian rial, which depreciated 27% against USD. I reckon this has less to do with disputed UN snapback (note the sharper collapse in July) than impact of broader US sanctions, chronic issues w/ FX repatriation, corruption, pandemic, & global recession.

Inflation in Lebanon - new numbers. Main needs have become crazy expensive. Food prices increased 367% in one year. House items and furniture by 664%; clothing & footwear by 413%. Every family relying on local wages & without remittances or large assets is probably poor now.
