Took Dad to & after countless ill-fitting pairs, a young woman comes to explain our misery: “The problem isn’t you,” she says kindly to Dad. “Our glasses aren’t designed for black features.” Oh the quiet, casual discrimination of the everyday

Wow! Wonder if that is taught during training to actually say to potential customers

My problem isn’t with the young woman. She only told it like it is. My problem is with the “nude tights” that aren’t right, the nude foundation that’s pink, the glasses ill-suited to East Asian or African features. *That’s* the quiet casual discrimination

Hi Eliza, thanks for bringing this to our attention - we're taking this extremely seriously and would like to have this looked into as a matter of priority. Please, could you DM with your dad's DOB, postcode and the 1/2

I discovered this myself after several hopeless visits to Specsavers but no-one there told me. In desperation I googled 'why can't glasses fit my asian face' and it's great! There are ranges out there for us at specialist shops. Pricey though.

It is true. I'm British Asian and encountered the same issue. Glasses for us are labelled as "low bridge fit" and indeed match our face structure. You can query Google for online glasses stores who go out of their way to cater asian and black customers.

Can you share the name of some of the specialists? I’m due to get some new glasses soon, and would love some that don’t keep sliding off my nose 😒

Is there an update please on what has been said by Specsavers about this?

I doubt it occurred to anyone it was a problem - I hadn't thought about it until this very moment. If they were smart they would find a celebrity and bring out a X line to cater to this problem. Or some entrepreneur could get up and do it, call the shop Shades and make money.

Is the staff member going to get her arse kicked then? Or do you want to explore the actual problem?

Why does she need to be sacked? Eliza has no issue with the assistant.

Totally agree. So frustrating going to airports and they don't stock for darker skin.
