Hi GSGS. Are you being sarcastic? I don’t remember you doing that over the years!

On Feb 28, coronavirus complacency was a vastly greater enemy than fear, rumors, and stigma. The virus itself was certainly a greater enemy than fear, rumors, and stigma. I can't imagine what Dr. Tedros was thinking then. But for sure, he was wrong.

Glen, is this the position of WeillCornell? "the overwhelming majority of people are getting this by physically touching someone who has this disease[...]and then touching their face" -- David Price MD, March 23, quoted by Fox News from the video you like.

Has David Price moderated his 3/28 Fox News statement yet? (Epistemic Status: Likely to be false) David Price MD: "the overwhelming majority of people are getting this by physically touching someone who has this disease[...]and then touching their face"

Many health care workers still need to work on hand hygiene adherence (see link). And we'll work on learning to don and doff masks. Officials: show respect for the public & get over your False Sense of Security about HCW adherence to precautions. WHO:

Suggestion: When you quote "expert" assertions about elbow coughing and handwashing, consider adding an Epistemic Status Check (ESC) for your impression of the expert's state of knowledge, and for the evidence itself (if any).

Yes, mainly for source control. (So why does new UK policy urge surg masks for HCW in 2 meters of susp/confirmed cases?) MANY people want to protect others. And even if a mildly infected person uses mask for selfish reasons, it still may help as source control. Harm reduction.

The "face fiddling" hypothesis I would want to test: Do people pick their nose, or try to get food out of their teeth, MORE OR LESS when wearing a face cover? In other words, test for mucous-membrane auto-inoculation, not merely "face fiddling." Observation studies welcome.

Also potentially useful re: looking into persistence of immunity in those who did test pos on known dates.

It depends which *principle* they are optimising for. If it’s “we don’t want public mask wearing because of shortage”, then they weaponize the concept of FSoS (False sense of...). A little circular, sorry.

Yes, the Pub Health establishment has been Motte-and-Baileying “asymptomatic”, “presymptomatic”, and “mildly ill” for weeks.

Read down this whole heartening thread. Hopefully the start of the Immune Corps, which will be able to help in so many ways.

Mask question for experts: What would you recommend for the public for source control: -if there were no shortage? -if it wouldn’t lead to a lot of precaution substitution (FSoS)? -if most people could learn to use properly? Answer also if shortage.

New PPE recommendations for UK HCWs: "any clinician working within 2 metres of a suspected or confirmed coronavirus COVID-19 patient should wear...surgical mask..., based on the risk" If no one expects a pretense to be believed, is it still a lie?
