Trump's surreal Thanksgiving statement: "As we gather with family and friends..." "I encourage all Americans to gather, in homes and places of worship..." "[W]e also acknowledge those who cannot be with their families. This includes...our Armed Forces"

Well Richie, since you ASKED, and also since I have been promising to send this to my son for ages: Here is my one and only turkey-related recipe!

Warning people -- and turning out wrong (or appearing to turn out wrong if people take precautions and NOTHING BAD HAPPENS) -- leads to the "damned if you do, damned if you don't" fallacy. We discussed this when some experts wanted to start warning about a probable pandemic...

Your thread is just about the first time my thoughts have bridged from health care worker deaths to how other occupations honor the dead and their families. (i.e. military: names of battles, ceremonies). Another task for very-important-things-to-do communication work list.

As far as I can tell, FAO has no need for me --one of my highest compliments. But delighted to have been asked to put my two cents in, and will continue to do so. 3/3

In 2016 I joyfully worked with FAO for 13 African countries, introducing basic risk comm principles/strategies re: bird flu outbreaks on farms. They have come far. Passionate. Sophisticated pilot projects. Hypothesis-testing. Community-involvement: Ground up, not top down. 2/3

. . I just attended FAO's Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) Behaviour Change Community of Practice launch, during World Antimicrobial Awareness Week 2020 (WAAW = "Wow!"). Wonderful to turn my mind to a hugely important issue that isn't COVID. 1/3

"Liddle Donald" Cuomo is not enhancing his reputation by undermining de Blasio. He's just reminding us all that vicious nasty cruel politicians come from all parties. And sometimes the Left eats its own. We could use kind, smart, decent joint leadership in NY, not undermining.

There is NO EXCUSE for Andrew "Liddle Donald" Cuomo's vicious treatment of flawed but well-meaning Bill de Blasio in NYC. Last March de Blasio delayed NYC shutdowns despite disastrous COVID doublings. But he's urgently trying to do the right thing now.1/2

I strongly agree (and have been arguing) that at least those AB+ people with history of PCR+ mod/severe cases should be back-of-line. And then decide where else to draw a line.

How are you using the word "containment?" It seems to have meant different things over the course of the pandemic. At first, Dr. Tedros seemed to mean "stopping" the pandemic before too much global spread. Later -- "flatten curve" to protect health care. Then? And now? Your def?

I am so not worried about the hesitants at this point. Those of us who can't wait to get a vaccine and who long for everyone to get it eventually should cultivate the practice of being hugely respectful toward those who fear it or don't want it for any reason. Stop dissing them!!

Oh no, that's awful! Especially in warm locations -- why not scheduled, socially-distanced, better-than-nothing outdoor meet-ups on site at the facilities?
