Good luck on your quit. It can really take it out of you for a bit, but it's worth it. It all evens out eventually.

And if you get that zoom modem going, let me know how it works for you! The extra bit of speed could make a big difference!

Ha, fair enough. When you do get it, try Planetweb 2 (it's on a lot of the ODM demo discs). The dial time is really lenient

Win98 is the easiest if you've got a spare machine. Some really user friendly options for a PC-DC setup. No messing around.

This is the guide I used. Worked like a charm. All Serial modems are supposed to work.

No problem. The more dreamcasts online, the more people to play with! A serial setup should be foolproof.

People swear by that zoom modem. I believe you can only pull ~33kb/s out of a PCI modem, you can get ~44 with usb.

And if not, let me know. I've probably got the stuff to make one just laying around. A couple cents worth of parts.

That inducer they show on there is pretty simple, if you're comfortable with a soldering iron it should be a snap.

Which was probably the 5th modem I tried before I got one to work*

I'm cheap and didn't buy anything new. I used an old USRobotics PCI voice modem in a Windows 98 computer with Winroute

Do you have a copy of Planetweb 2 to try? That one was easier to connect for me.

The timings can be somewhat strict. Different games dial out at different times. Took me quite a few tries to get it down.

Planetweb 2 supports dial-up (Planetweb 3 doesn't work anymore and only does BBA) and is what I used for my first try.

What is it doing when you try to connect? Are you getting modem sounds?

That depends on your Dreamcast modem. Rev A modems don't require the inducer. What disc are you trying to connect with?

Any luck with it yet? I thought the DC modem was the side that required the inducer? Are you sure you're timing it right?

Or PSO on PC works plenty fine too. Like I said, you can play with Dreamcast users, you just aren't on a Dreamcast.
