same goes with institutions! there are some institutional cultures/norms/workplaces that are abusive pressure cookers that can suck the joy out of your work and life! don't stick around if the institution reinforces behaviors/norms that don't align with your values/goals

yes! and this means getting used to and getting good at learning to say no....which will allow you to stay focused on your goals instead of getting scattered in a million directions. This is hard for me, but an important lesson!

Find your people! Build your village (personal & professional). This path requires so much support, encouragement, collaboration- that village is key. I have a constant stream of texts w/ close colleagues re: career advice, challenges, & successes- these friendships keep me going!

Sometimes I'm hopeful that we're making progress and then I see things like this and am left SMH again. Diversity and representation matter!

This article highlights the perils of diversity without inclusion: “it was going through 6 yrs of just feeling invalidated a lot of the time, & seeing how, no matter how much I did or how good my work was, it was never going to be enough.”

So many layers of love for the books my kids picked out at the store yesterday! We've already read 'Sofia Valdez Future Prez' 4 times today- but these are the kind of books that I don't mind reading on repeat.

When writing manuscript/grant reviews, I find it useful to put myself in their shoes. If I was receiving comments on my grant/paper, what feedback/framing would be constructive and helpful to improve the work, while also being encouraging and not overly critical
