it isn't, and often if that's how people are introduced to research it's not surprising they are put off (is a big problem in medical research, sadly)

Q6. What a lovely question! We don't ask this enough ❤️ I'm eternally grateful to every participant that's ever said 'yes' to being in one of my studies.

The final question of the evening! Q6 We'd like to know if there is anyone you'd like to thank for their help and support with your research or getting involved in research

First I commend international supports thus far, but to me the funding approach is not enough. It will be great if I can pull money from my pocket to get the resources I needed. Cost needs to come down. Something like change the "economic of doing research"

very much this, and while we mentioned working on another person's project to get valuable experience, that can also feel like you're just collecting data with no real agency or involvement

Q5/6 one of my biggest concerns about research currently is the lack of appropriate support given to researchers, in a climate that can feel pressured and bullying

Q5/6 - support to identify researchers have the skills, materials, tools and training to do their job. Plus a welcoming and warm environment where people can disclose problems, find solutions, and get any support they need

Time for Q 5/6! What requirements are there to support researchers?

Which is relevant given how many projects now require low or middle income country partners to get funding. We need to be far better at international support. What, in your experience, would help ?

Q4 Already!! Here we are asking about the individual vs the team. How have teams or individuals helped in your research studies?

I agree, although might have more to say regarding working in a different country - Western country originated support networks aren't necessarily open/welcoming to low/middle income country residents :-(

that's such a good point - finding the RIGHT support network is the challenge (and IME keeps shifting)

It's also safer for all concerned, I'm far too tiggerish to be allowed to do any project on my own

but nowadays I teach others to anticipate how they might feel, to build in support if not available, and to ensure they've positive things outside work, plus a buddy to call at end of day/shift/programme etc

It goes back to experience. 'Knowing how to do research' isn't just about methods etc, it's about the whole process and what to expect. More realistic training might have prepared me (methods training is poor on these issues)
