I'm reading a very bad FI manifesto and the main ideas so far are: 1) Privilege isn't a thing...but if it is, minorities have it easier. 2) Race, gender, diversity & inclusion don't matter, & shouldn't matter. Dare I go on? What other lazily contrarian ideas await me?

2/ I've eaten dinner, had a beer, and Baby AF is asleep so, hey, why not finish this train wreck of a manifesto and live tweet it? If I don't type for an hour, that means the manifesto has caused me to pass out & hit my head on the tile floor. Someone please call for help.

3/ Picking up here, I immediately feel regret. "Women dominate several well-paying professions, including public relations, nursing, teaching, veterinary medicine, and gynecology. Women also do better than men in school and are far less likely than men to be incarcerated..."

4/ "...homeless, suicidal, injured at work, or killed in battle. And, yet, I never hear the term “female privilege” being bandied about." Despite there being fields where women 'dominate' (cherry picked)...the wage gap IS. A. THING. Despite women doing better in school. Hmm.

5/ "Hispanics certainly have “privilege” when it comes to immigration. Blacks certainly have “privilege” when it comes to athletic prowess." Wow, dude. You're really just letting it fly here. I mean... Nope, not going to dignify this with a rebuttal. Moving on...

6/ "My biggest gripe with the mainstream FI definition of privilege is that it’s intellectually lazy. Too many mainstream FI people believe that one’s starting position in life is automatically one’s ending position." This is a strawman, and one Groovy can barely knock over.

7/ The guy clearly is struggling with a false dichotomy. No one believes your starting position is automatically your ending position: rather, that it influences it, as does effort. Luck plays a role, AND effort plays a role. Someone go give Groovy a copy of Thinking In Bets.

8/ "But are these notions valid? Is it really cruel to hold the have-nots accountable for any part of their lamentable circumstances? And is it really foolish to give the haves any credit for any success they may achieve?" But that argument is so absurd...oh, wait.

9/ Next comes a part where Groovy compares being a white supremacist to having bad financial habits, because both are just the result of your upbringing, and then pointing out the terrible hypocrisy of social justice warriors for accepting one, but not the other, because SAME.

10/ Groovy then proves that privilege isn't real by citing a single guy whose family had a fur business, & he works really hard. Ergo, people who are rich deserve credit, because it takes work to maintain riches, so they all must be working hard. Fool, google Inductive Reasoning

11/ "Alt-FI people simply don’t give a shit about diversity. They believe that concerning oneself with the demographics of a meet-up or conference is as inappropriate and ridiculous as concerning oneself with the jean allocation of a meet-up or conference" Sigh...okay.

12/ It is depressing to have to counter this view but, friend, inclusion and diversity do matter, both to those not represented and the group itself. There are well documented benefits. Please read more.

13/"Each of us has a choice. We can condition ourselves to be colorblind or color-aware. Alt-FI people believe we move closer to a “more perfect union” by being colorblind, ethnicity-blind, gender-blind, sexual orientation-blind, and “whatever irrelevant trait you can think of.."

14/ ”-blind. Mainstream FI people, on the other hand, believe we move closer to a “more perfect union” by being color-aware and encouraging everyone to be obsessive bean counters." Oh, those are the two choices? I guess we should agree with the white guy who doesn't see color!

Stopped here. "But exactly what laws and policies are currently forcing poor young girls to have children they can’t afford—a significant factor in the perpetuation of poverty? " Nope. That gets you blocked, fuck you very much.

His recent comment on Matt’s () post suggested he also doesn’t understand that feminism is about equality. Matt usually discusses these issues in a more kind way than I’m capable of.

Agreed. Though I'm no longer surprised when people have strong opinions on things they don't understand at all.

His brand will grow, because white guys who don't like thinking about race, gender, privilege, inequality, discimination, or anything else that makes them feel uncomfortable, are a HUGE group, and they want to be able to express these trash ideas more openly.

There are several big names in FI, who coincidentally just happened to be white guys, who are gushing over and promoting this post right now.

Pretty disturbing how many of the well-known FI bloggers co-signed this nonsense (whom I’ve now unfollowed). I don’t need more racism, sexism & elitism in my life. I’m all stocked up. Now I’m going to show & immediately re-listen to every episode of .

Listening to that show again is a great idea. I'm going to join you. And yes, a lot of people in PF are showing us who they are now by sharing and endorsing the post. In that one way, the manifesto is pretty valuable.

Also, I see that you met Jerome Bettis and I am super jealous! I grew up in Pittsburgh and travelled to see the magical playoff run in 05 when he won his ring and retired. Love the Bus.
