Alright, let's do this! First, the discount. From the main itch page, hop on over to the top right menu and choose "Sales & bundles"

(You can also get there from your creator dashboard; it's one of the tabs across the top.) Click "Create a new sale or bundle"

Fill in the required fields and the description. That description will show up when they go to the sale URL, at which point the discount will already applied. Here's a screenshot of how I set mine up. Note that I set my date range to cover a 2-year range.

Under Games, select the game you want to include in the sale. Note that itch automatically creates a bundle if you select more than one, which also puts a widget at the top of the product page. If you don't want that, you'll want a different sale for each game.

Coupon Code is the important piece. This is what turns it into an opt-in thing instead of an always-on thing. You'll also get the url for your discount. Enter a coupon code, and then go ahead and copy it now.

Set it to Public and click Save.

Now head over to your game's Edit Game tab, and scroll down to the product description. Put a note at the top describing the discount, and then add a "click here" phrase and turn it into a url using the one you copied from your sale. (Ctrl-K/Cmd-K will open the hyperlink window.)

Then save the changes. Now your discount is live! A note: when you go to the discount link, it creates a cookie to activate that discount. If you click one of these links and then change your mind about using the discount, you'll need to clear your browser cookies.

So that's opt-in discounts. They're great and I love them. Let's talk Community Copies.

Community copies are free copies of the game that anyone can claim. Itch supports this feature through the Rewards system. So from the game's dashboard, hop on over to the "More" menu and select "Rewards".

When you first get to this page, you'll see a "New Reward" button. Click that, and you'll see this field.

Fill in the information however you like. But let's focus on these two fields. "Minimum price" sets the amount the customer needs to pay to get access to your game through this reward. Set this to "0.00" "Total quantity" sets the number of available copies.

You can use that quantity field however you like. I set it to match the number of Payments on the game. This makes it easy to track, and doesn't require me to do any math on dollars earned.

Once you've got the fields filled in, click "Save". And that's it! Your community copies are live! They'll show up under "Exclusive Content", which seems silly, but as far as I know there's no way to remove that.

This thread's been getting steady traction since I posted it, and I just now realized I never gave credit to the person who taught me how to do it:
