It shouldn't have taken hundreds of protesters fearing for their lives in a confrontation with the police & the National Guard for this to have happened. Nevertheless, I'm glad this unjust curfew designed to stop public demonstrations has been lifted. I hope other cities follow.

So many thoughts abt last night, but the dominant one is this: the hyper-militarization of PVD was tone-deaf, dangerous, wasteful, & was the exact same response to the chorus of pain & rage folks have been singing for generations. , how can that possibly bring change?

Vibe changes at RI State House. State Police and National Guard w batons, helmets and gas masks in pouches line steps ahead of 9pm curfew. Protest organizers imploring protestors to back up away from the police. Helicopter overhead.

Complete shame. The “curfew” is set for 9:00pm. It is almost as if the police and the National Guard want to provoke our peaceful advocates. Let’s be clear — it is our “law enforcement” who are trying to incite violence.

Family, if you are attending today's public demonstration (4:30 at Kennedy Plaza) -- please be safe & remember to practice *self-care* before/after the demonstration. It is okay to feel emotional. This is a concerning time, but together, we are going to push forward for justice!

Why aren’t more elected officials speaking out about this? Let’s be clear: Today will be a very telling day for the City of Providence and the State of Rhode Island. How will the police and the National Guard approach a *YOUTH-LED* demonstration?

This is unnecessary. Since Monday, our government has quickly taken an extremely hostile approach towards advocates fighting for justice. If only they took urgent action when it came to addressing homelessness, healthcare disparities, and low wages.

Interesting to see equivocating on ’s question regarding bills he’s killed in committee during conference. At the very least, he’s killed the undocumented licenses bill every single year.

Exactly. They know what they are doing. They are all aware that this was the *perfect* time to approve this nomination without attracting too much attention. Absolute shame.

Yesterday, *our* government approved the nomination of a former National Grid lawyer as the Chair of our State's Public Utilities Commission. We are literally going to have a former lawyer representing a for-profit utility corporation lead our energy policies. This is insulting.

Councilwoman summarized this perfectly. A government's budget outlines their *priorities* and it directly shows you their sense of morals based on what is considered "important". Budgets have an immediate impact on people and their standard of living.

Thank you for those kind words, our people definitely deserve better! Our election will be on September 8th. As for Friday’s protest, here is the poster.

I proudly support these demands: - Cutting police funding in state & city budgets (we should redirect those funds to education & housing) - Removing cops from schools (students deserve counselors, not cops) Instead of empty words -- our officials should commit to these actions.

Yes and I hope they’re actually exempt from arrests in practice. Nevertheless, if the government is going to issue a curfew due to “fears of violence and/or looting” then they should be providing shelter to our homeless community so they are actually protected!

Exactly. This injustice has been happening in other cities enforcing a curfew. As always, it is our most vulnerable that are left to suffer.

If our government issues a curfew, then they better be prepared to provide immediate shelter to our homeless community!
