It is just astonishing that a reporter would enter into an interview on foreign policy issues with the blatant goal of holding the politician to account for being insufficiently nationalistic and literally no understanding of the actual history

Here are my principal conclusions: 1. Attorney General Barr has deliberately misrepresented Mueller’s report. 2. President Trump has engaged in impeachable conduct. 3. Partisanship has eroded our system of checks and balances. 4. Few members of Congress have read the report.

This is an important document. It demonstrates how strong the headwinds are to reorienting US foreign policy in a less bloodthirsty direction.

“Some say Democrats are angry...well I don’t believe it.” This man is gonna be the end of me. I’m curious how he thinks any reform of the founding inequalities he so dutifully mentions in the first excerpt was achieved...rainbows, smiles, & affable affection for the oppressors?

I mean, I'd like to think I'm friends with my colleagues (there are about half a dozen of us, all around the same age)

Bret Stephens was born in 1973, meaning that the oldest cohort of millennials is only 8-12 years younger than him, and include a large number of his colleagues... all of whom, with one obvious exception, presumably can't stand him.

I would think Bret would be the target demo for the current/future iteration of the website Gawker

Let's be real, most people would be talking about some bullshit or other today no matter what. The policy reporter's lament!

Then great! It would be great if Neera Tanden is not the person in charge of staffing up every Democratic administration. It would be great if Democratic staffers didn't have to get processed through a giant lobbying firm for Wal-Mart and Gulf monarchs.

In fairness, most actual Dem voters are completely ignorant of that and might respond to Bernie telling the story Chris is suggesting. It's true that some insiders wouldn't like it but they don't like anything about Bernie.

Your presumption here is that elite gatekeepers (NYT, CAP, etc) don't matter, aren't important, don't need to be dealt with. When in fact the lesson of 2016 in both parties is that they need to be ruthlessly dispatched if you're running an insurgent campaign.

Pitch: 1980s buddy movie featuring Burlington Mayor Bernie Sanders and Pastor Tim from The Americans as they travel around the developing world solving mysteries and fighting imperialism.

But also the specific issue will be beside the point for most voters, even though Bernie happens to be right. The key thing here is that he doesn’t get pushed around.

It’s not the main thing but fighting out the substance of 1980s LatAm policy is such a refreshing alternative to “lol, you were the mayor of a tiny white college town in Vermont, why did you have a foreign policy?”
