when people hurl personal abuse about politics it gets a cheap laugh from people who support their point of view (routine on twitter), but it is sad and it certainly degrades democracy. Politicians (all types) get abuse most, so they should be protected

Not really, otherwise the UK Govt wouldn't have got an opt out from implementation of the LCPD Directive and they would have had more coal plant fitted with FGD equipment much earlier
