This is an actual human being who bought a toy of a Star Wars character he didn’t like, only to destroy it and insult the amazing actress who plays her, wishing that her career dies, simply because he didn’t like the character and movie.

Trump’s executive order won’t immediately stop the separation of immigrant parents and children. It seems to be, at the moment, illegal. If a judge signs off, it could be a recipe for indefinite family detention. American concentration camps for a new era.

“But after seeing parents whose children were stolen away by the government, with no plan to reunite them, I know I am not seeing justice at work. And I don’t know how this will end.”

Criticism has a moral dimension. You have to be moved by suffering and repulsed by evil. Art relies on those responses. A critic without a moral response—which in this real world extends to politics—is never going to produce good criticism.

That's the proper headline. Fascist, racist shit-lord goes through pomp of false ceremony to ritualistically maintain the crumbling facade of a semblance of not being a human septic tank.

Trump is "furious about the pummeling he's taken in recent days," the NYT reports. In case you wondered who the real victim is here.

While I'm less than eager to visit my increasingly dystopian native country right now, I'm still excited to hang out with fellow nerds and sci-fi scholars. So who else is going to next week?

If trump ends family separation, the fight doesn't end. It shifts to: 1. Reuniting the thousands of children already separated; and 2. Opposing the detention of entire families in concentration camps. It's not over, it's just beginning.

Anyone who believes film criticism & critics must be apolitical has, at best, a deeply flawed understanding of cultural theory & how it intersects with a variety of issues, including politics. Also, critics are actual people so can it with this faux-outrage over opinions.

Werner and Walter were 14 when they were 'separated' from their parents and put in Auschwitz. They were tattooed 10 numbers apart. ALL Holocaust survivors I interview still weep when they talk about the moment they were taken from parents.
