‘Near’ as in ‘nowhere near’? Not sure KK did too badly for City: promotion, numerous records broken etc. How much was Ali Benarbia?

Still lives in Manchester and plenty of tales from those days. It’s got a bit lost among the Newcastle stuff but two big chapters on the MCFC years, the drinkers, promotion etc. Hope you’re good Chris

It's true: the man Mike Ashley appointed to oversee Newcastle's transfer business (and find a centre-half) had never heard of Per Mertesacker

I do, very well - Nigel's big day and, naturally, could barely get a word in :)

Strong memories of Sir Bobby Robson talking about Kevin Beattie when he worked on his book. This says it all...

That game finished 2-1, but could easily have been 4-0, or even more. Liverpool enjoying the view from the top of the table. Match report:

Probably shouldn’t be surprised but the event with Kevin Keegan (capacity 1,640) is sold out already. KK not on Twitter but I know he’s delighted

At the end of every game, win, lose or draw, the players at Gateshead FC personally go and thank fans for travelling to games. A tradition that’s been going on years at the club. Brilliant to see. 👏🏼

Unfortunately, with the added time etc, our early edition went to press before the game ended. It would have been in later editions of the Observer, for cities, major towns etc - a common problem for late matches on a Friday/Saturday sadly
