KASS Conference 2018: Ky Superintendents learning about success in Fairfax Virginia from former Superintendent, Dr. Karen Garza. The presentation is centered around developing a profile of a graduate. Raising the bar for all students while engaging all stakeholders👍

Right now at KASS we have Jon Akers, Executive Director of the KY Center with school safety speaking with a few of his associates. NOTHING is more important to us than the safety and security of our kids. PERIOD. Thank you Jon for your commitment to helping us push school safety

Fortunate to be at the annual KY Association of School Superintendents conference with many colleagues from throughout the state this afternoon. It’ll be great to hear from Education Commissioner Lewis here in a few minutes.

Areas of sleet, freezing rain and/or snow will be possible in the highlighted blue areas over the next few hrs, generally in southern MO/KY near the AR/TN borders. While precipitation may be light, area roadways may be slick. Simply slow down to reduce the chances of an accident.

Last night we had a nice crowd but both the DS Lady Panthers and Panthers fall to very tough MNH. We battled hard in both games. Hats off to both teams. Our Panthers play today @ Madisonville vs Lyon Co. at noon. Lady Panthers back in action on Tuesday @ Crittenden Co.

Today I’m in Madisonville at MCC with Principal Marshall and Mrs. Wooton attending our regional cohort meeting regarding collaboration and needs. Thanks to President Kelley, Jay Parrent and MCC folks for having us and also Superintendent Vince Clark for steering the discussion.

I appreciate that the KY HS graduation requirements were amended because resources vary greatly among districts, but when do we get to have THAT conversation? The disparity is climbing toward the pre-KERA gap that prompted significant reform in KY's funding model.

This afternoon Principal Marshall and I had the opportunity to listen to our Young Leaders in Action team do a presentation about us potentially going to a smoke, tobacco and vape free campus. Great stuff! Look forward to hearing more from them on this.

Roads here in and around DS in good shape. I am getting reports that bridges on I-69 towards Nortonville and Madisonville are very hazardous with accidents. Use caution on those areas and you may consider other routes than 69 based on reports I’ve gotten.

I’ve been out on the streets of DS since shortly after 4am this morning. As of right now, nearly 5:45 am the streets are clear, just wet and the only places I’ve found minimal ice is on bridges leading into town. Use caution coming in, we will continue to monitor.

Congrats to Chancie Robinson for having her logo design chosen by the DSEF. Also congrats to Caiden Hickerson and Savannah Smith for their second and third place designs. The students were presented with their framed logo entries and with gift cards. They all did an awesome job

Fortunate to be with Dean Whaley and some fellow Superintendents from the region today at Murray State with Interim President Jackson. We hope the interim tag is dropped soon for Dr Jackson! We’re discussing current educational issues.

Visiting in Ms. Cotton’s room this afternoon. Her students are working diligently. Ms. Cotton is super enthused about our winter assessment results. She and her students are working very hard. Happy and proud of them!
