Sad to see news on Rafer Johnson, who after career in athletics did so much good for . I’ll also remember him from a few (😳) years ago as guy who ordered popcorn + candy apples from food cart I worked at at Magic Mountain the summer I graduated from high school

Nearly all of American racing's regulatory oversight boards need to do better & demand better from their officials. Inconsistency in California stewarding this past weekend at Del Mar was obvious (but at least they are better at communicating than most of their counterparts)...

. meet had terrific racing. Field size up (8.1 per race avg, 8.7 on turf), helped handle skyrocket, owing to top-class racing dept led by Tom Robbins & , who as usual did great job recruiting Eastern trainers for turf festival. And the racing was safe. Bravo

He’s retired after having a stroke a number of years ago but he made a point of coming to BC at DMR in 2017 to see Chad and he had sons employed at the track. Has presented trophy for Frankel Stakes at SA too

That's 3 of last 4 Matriarchs for , following Uni and Off Limits. As for & Frankel, wins included Heat Haze and Intercontinental in 2003-04. In 2009, Ventura won 12 days after Frankel's passing; was saddled by assistant Humberto Ascanio
