3/4 The sundarbans mangrove forest en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sundarbans (worlds largest) helps protect Gabura, but it's hard to see how it can survive even 0.5 m more sea level plus a big cyclone. 2/4 The island was last completely flooded in 2009. We were standing on a dyke in bad need of repair. Advanced warning and schools that double as cyclone shelters have sharply reduced deaths who.int/bulletin/volum…. But risk still very high.

4/4 Why are Bengal Tigers not THE poster animal for climate change? All are in the Sunderbans, at ground zero of the joint impacts of sea level rise and increased cyclone intensity. It's hard to imagine them not extinguished this century. Is it that Polar Bears are white?
