Pardon me while I complain for a second: Do you have any idea how sick I am of having the SAME complaint about game subtitles over and over and over again when doing reviews? Start listening to feedback, game devs, and give me something new to complain about, please.

Illegible subtitles (either due to size or poor contrast or both). Second most common is the lack of a speaker name so it's impossible to follow who is saying what.

When will game devs learn that just because they can read the subtitles while sat a foot away from a PC making the game doesn’t mean we can read them while sat 6 foot from the TV in our living rooms?

As frustrating as it is, it's genuinely helpful. The argument of "Other games do it this way" is one dev advocates have to hurdle, so the more noise about this across more games, the easier the rock is for us all to push uphill

And it seems to me that of all the issues game developers have to deal with, subtitles would be one of the more straightforward ones to resolve. It’s a question of attention and valuing it’s importance. It’s disappointing knowing that it’s a choice to not do it.

They are terrible and It would be super easy to fix. And a lot of people turn them on. I can hear fine and I turn them on in every game. On TV a lot too. It’s easy to miss things if you don’t. The number of times I’ve thought: “that would be useless if I couldn’t hear” is large.
