Guilt is a wasted energy - fly if you need to & plant trees to offset the air miles there are plenty of options & some airlines offer it instead of air miles 🌲🌳🌱🌳🌿🌳

So often this comes up in conversations about change and leadership. Projects might create motivation and knowledge to change but without the conditions for change to happen it is like watering a plant which has no soil

Had a tour of Rotherham parks and green spaces today: 11 urban parks, 25 recreation grounds, 106 play areas, 1,800 play assets & 1,270 allotment plots - that’s a lot of nature, fun & play!

If you want to get the solutions we need to the world's wicked problems implemented, do 1 of 2 things: -make your ideas irresistible without losing their originality -create or shape institutions both willing & able to implement ideas that seemingly come from nowhere

size impacts connection in start ups - 12, 25, 70 as the scale up happens you see the connection change at 120, 300, 700, +1500 hierarchy evolves bringing with it more complexity @ communication & aligning to purposeful work. I also see it when facilitating large groups

I promoted a simple idea I stole from communities here in Finland called to battle this in little babysteps, and for some this has worked nicely, where employees get paired with random strangers every 2 weeks :)

Lonely is not the word I’d use to speak generally about ppl in large orgs. I’ve worked in orgs from 10 to 300k, loneliness was not something I felt in any of them per se. I would say that where there was disjunction it was usually in lack of connected purpose.

I'm doing an audit of publicly available design thinking training materials for a client (they're paying hourly, so whatevs), and wow, what a pile of hot garbage I've amassed. I don't know who is worse, the universities or the snake oil consultants.

So yeah I assign this task to my grad students every year and I give them this as an example and then we talk about the relationship between process woo-woo and how work/teams actually are structured
