American troops have been killed in the line of duty from an attack claimed by ISIS. Praying for the troops lost & their families. I've pressed the President to reverse his decision to withdraw stabilization funds from Syria—ISIS is clearly not defeated.

We need to do everything we can to make sure this is not the reality of our planet in 2029. If we want to pass on a sustainable healthy world to the next generation, we need to have started yesterday. Today's not too late. . Let's get it started.

So many questions for Trump's nominee to lead the Environmental Protection Agency – Andrew Wheeler. EPA's mission is to protect human health & our environment – so why does he keep doing things to undermine the well-being of our planet? He does not understand the urgency here.

William Barr said "overall" he thought the criminal justice system is working & "it's not predicated on racism." But the facts don't lie. Overall the criminal justice system is NOT working & has a disparate impact on people of color.

The cancer on the soul of our nation is the disproportionate impact of our criminal justice system on vulnerable communities – people of color, mentally ill, addicted, victims of sexual trauma. As we finish 1st day of Barr hearing, I'm still worried he doesn't understand this.

Cory Booker with a great line of questioning confronting Barr on his record regarding criminal incarcerations for drug crimes, showing how out of touch he is: "Sir, I was a young black guy in 1990s....And I experienced a dramatically different justice system."

Sen got this commitment from Barr during his time for questioning. Marijuana has been a top criminal justice issue for Booker

William Barr to : We either should have a federal law that prohibits marijuana everywhere, which I would support myself, 'cause I think it's a mistake to back off on marijuana. However, if we want a federal approach, if we want states to have their own laws..." (cont.)

I grew up in Harrington Park - incredible community - where I started learning about our criminal justice system. For the last 20+ yrs I've lived in Newark - incredible community - where I witnessed a very different and broken criminal justice system. We must demand fairness

It is so good that even if we aren't "fans" we can still extend an open mind to each other and look for common ground. Thanks for this tweet and for extending me a bit of grace. Hope we cross paths one day. I bet there is a lot more we agree on.

My takeaway from Barr so far is that despite powerful questioning by and , Barr is standing by Sessions’ reversal of criminal justice reform efforts at DOJ. He admitted to believing “overall” system is working and blacks and whites treated similarly.

Cory Booker starts off his questioning of Bill Barr asking him about medical marijuana, and Barr suggests that he will allow medical marijuana to continue. His goal is to "not to upset settled expectations," Barr said

Cory Booker is doing a really good job pressing Barr on race and mass incarceration right now. Barr is not doing a remotely good job being pressed.
