Tactical firing operations were successful on the and containment increased to 20 percent. Fire managers observed excellent ventilation rates today. Good ventilation allowed for smoke to rise and disperse rather than settling into surrounding communities.

Here is the daily update for the#WhiskeyFire for September 17, 2019. A test firing operation will take place this afternoon with plans for a larger firing operation later this week in order to improve the containment line.

Today .04 in. of rain fell over some areas of the . This amount of precipitation did not extinguish the fire. Due to conditions firing operations were not conducted and FS Road 538 remained open. If conditions allow, firing operations will resume Wednesday.

Coconino National Forest offices will be closed Tuesday, Sept. 17, due to an all employee meeting. Doors will reopen at 8am on Sept. 18. The Red Rock Ranger Visitor Center will remain open during normal business hours on Sept. 17.

Plan ahead for Interstate 40 closures at Bellemont/Transwestern road for bridge deck work. Eastbound lanes will close 7 p.m. to midnight today, and westbound lanes will close 7 p.m. to midnight Thursday. A ramp detour will be in place. More:
