I’ve not mentioned costs in relation to this other than to say it’s a part of a much wider range of advice. It’s coproduced with lawyers, parents, someone who has been the subject of the process & we’re seeking input from respected advocates too. The only aim is to help

I’m sorry if it’s given you that impression, that’s not the case at all. Is it from something I’ve said in relation to this?

Absolutely, but issues relating to the process is not what this is about. This is about parents who want guidance from charity/advocate/lawyer have the tools to help them find the right ppl/person to guide them through the process.

That’s great you had a solicitor like that. I’m a little confused why ppl have the impression this is about lawyer or nothing or about ‘costs’ It’s absolutely not! It’s only about providing information so parents can ask the right questions & get the right support.

Appreciate your concern & assure you that the working group have never been focused on bashing advocates. This is only about developing realistic info, so parents can then make an informed choice - whether that be advocate or solicitor. Not to push any agenda other than choice.

Replying to @e2ska @bjpren and 6 others
Costs are included but only as a small part of a larger & more detailed guidance covering many areas.

That’s not what the guidance is about, apologies if that’s the impression that’s been given. It’s about a lot more than costs.

Absolutely & that’s been discussed, I assure you.

It can’t. As you know, guidance can only give details on what’s available/options & provide information to support informed choice.

Completely agree about regulation but in the absence of that, parents need something. Everyone involved is only interested in supporting good/fair choice & protecting vulnerable families. It’s not the whole solution, it can’t possibly be, but it’s a small part of it-hopefully!

You’re absolutely right & Hayley was referring to only a small part of the planned guidance.

Doesn’t matter how long or how many, like you say, 1 family is 1 too many & it has to stop. No doubt you’ve got a deeper understanding now, but definitely a hard way to learn. Keep on keeping on! 👊

Lots of this is process advice rather than ‘advocate’ guidance, but if you’re concerned it might be biased towards lawyers, no one has pushed that view at all & 2 parents involved, so it’s coproduced. Its only about finding a way to help parents achieve a good/informed choice.

That’s not the aim. The aim is to provide parents with guidance to be able to make an informed choice when looking for an advocate/advice.

It’s broken me a few times over the 12ish years with my 3, but had excellent expert support too & I’m very grateful for that. Also grateful I’ve only 1 left to get through Education! We’re far from being unique in this.

First ever request, LA refused because sch didn’t send info. LA had plenty of info to meet threshold so I challenged & they backed down. Sch didn’t agree & wanted us to write our own version of an SSEN. Child ended up at indie Sp sch so sch were very wrong.

I’d be really interested too if you don’t mind?

That’s one of the aims because you’re not alone & others have paid a lot more to untrained ‘advocates’ for poor or no outcomes. However the aim isn’t about advocate bashing, it’s about good & well informed choice of both non & professionally qualified support.

Do you mean me? Or ? That’s really kind either way (& would love to read. One of mine has these difficulties, but pretty sure like anything, they’ll impact ppl differently.
