Anyway, I thought the somehowness of the muddling through was an important thing to admit to each other that we all do even amidst the compulsory cheer. Anyway, let’s face unafraid the plans that we made even if it’s facing how they can’t happen because of *gestures wildly.*

This started several years ago when I was letterpress printing my holiday cards and printed β€œSomeday soon we all will be together if the fates allow. Until then, we'll have to muddle through somehow.” in a cool blue ink mix on a stark white card. Everyone asked if I was okay.

I get that generally holiday song lyrics are meant to be sweet and light, but here begins the time of year when I meditate on the depth of isolated phrases that get stuck to me like burrs. Tonight: β€œTo face unafraid, the plans that we made.” What a thing, to be able to do this.

"[I]n the context of claims that American society is now 'post-racial,' virtually any work that treats race as a salient factor in social analysis has come to be associated with 'Critical Race Theory' (CRT)." ~Gary Peller (2011) Ain't that the truth, hahaha

We are so lucky to have her and the others not as well known, working so hard to protect the vote. It’s deeply unjust, that some in power want to take away people's fundamental rights.

A dog whistle for β€œconservatives.” By β€œoriginalism” we all know you mean β€œpretending the Reconstruction Amendments aren’t legitimate.” It’s for people who are lawless as well as racist. And it’s no secret.

This is why we have to be willing to learn with humility. We can say all sorts of nonsense if we are unwilling to go and look at how bodies & people actually work, or if we're unwilling to see when we are shown by others.

TBH, accepting Teh Gay is a big (inaccurate, proxy) boundary marker for outer edge of Ev. Quad; within the Quad, there are fault lines between progressives, conservatives, and full , w/ boundaries strung up around authoritarianism, patriarchy, race, and GOP.

The reason, I think, has to do with gatekeepers’ desire for unanimity. They wanna be able to say, eg, β€œALL evangelicals oppose marriage equality,” and so every counter-example gets reclassified as Officially No Longer One Of Us, no matter how Bennington-Quad those folks may be.

Like, I spent a year fielding the question, β€œHow come you’re not on Patheos Evangelical anymore?” and I was just, like, β€œI dunno, not my call.”
