Since 2007, the annual Carrera de los Muertos runs through beautiful 18th St (mile 19 of the Chicago Marathon), in the historic Pilsen neighborhood, in celebration of Dia de los Muertos/Day of the Dead.

After running in the 2006 , Carlos Jaramillo was inspired by the energy and enthusiasm in Pilsen and wanted to recreate that experience in another race to celebrate Latino culture.

Erika Sahlman ran her first marathon in Maine as part of the 2020 Virtual Experience in memory of her brother Karl, who passed away in Chicago in 2019. At mile 18 of her race this morning, a woman on a bike passed her; it was Joan Benoit Samuelson!
