Opinions about product management, technology news and inclusivity in tech. Diversity is about demographics, inclusion is about creating a sense of belonging.

I can't get help thinking how bored Satya must be with crushing it in the enterprise space to want this class of problems on Microsoft's plate.

A thing I can't get over is how the Trump administration does damaging things in a thoughtful manner like removing sorting machines & blue boxes from USPS to cripple mail-in ballots yet is supposedly clueless about helpful things like recommending masks or a national testing plan

It's funny to see leftists on Twitter talk so much about how communism needs to make a comeback to counter capitalism then glibly forget that it means a world where a leader like Trump literally owns everything and there's no alternatives for jobs, housing, food or mail delivery.

170K people have died due to gross negligence and misinformation from the government’s handling of . The idea that they’ll care about people’s mail being late is a quaint idea.

Epic basically kicked off a lawsuit against Apple like it's a new game launch. An amazing marketing coup to hook the media & public with the discount v-bucks announcement, goad Apple into banning them then drop the lawsuit with a parody ad.

How is it good for users directly that purchases costs 30% more which is passed to the end user? I can buy the argument that the App Store is good for users. Apple taxing developers 30% is primarily good for Apple shareholders not consumers.

It's interesting that of all of the companies in the recent antitrust discussions, Apple is the only one whose practices meet the traditional US definition of consumer harm (higher prices) yet faced the least questions from congress which is a testament to their PR team.

Apple has banned Fortnite for providing an alternative to using Apple payments that's 20% cheaper for consumers. In this case, Apple has to act like a feudal lord crushing rebellion because they can't risk more developers rebelling against the 30% tax.

being a product manager is having either not enough engineers or too many engineers on your team until you die

Epic is shipping a new payment system in Fortnite which bypasses Apple & Google payments and costs 20% less. This makes it quite clear Google/Apple’s dominance increases costs for consumers by taxing the ecosystem 30% which is then passed on to you & me.

Apple doesn't review every Netflix show or YouTube video. They don't need to review every game stream. The fundamental problem is that these services compete with Apple Arcade which has a similar Netflix for Games model while also avoiding their 30% tax.

This is a great overview of why Apple banning game streaming services like Google Stadia & XBox Game Pass is user hostile and inconsistent. The services just stream video like Netflix or YouTube, arguing you can't review the games doesn't make sense.

AirBnB revenue is down 67% from $1B to $335M. Truly the worst time in their history to IPO given it’s unclear when will end and how much travel will bounce back. I expect a vacation spike when this is over but think business travel won’t as much.

There’s a demographic for whom any criticism of “cancel culture” is eloquent regardless of how inane. It’s the old saying that when you’re privileged, equality looks like oppression. Same people are silent about the culture of women & minorities losing their jobs over advocacy.

Building a web browser is expensive and expectation is the product is free (set by MSFT & IE). That horse has left the barn. Forcing Chrome to be a stand-alone company like Mozilla doesn’t change that. Biz model will still be surveillance capitalism, see ➡️ payments.

Just saw a comment about how Sarah Cooper has to jump to TC/Netflix to capitalize on her fame. It made me wonder are there any TikTok millionaires? TikTok videos seem to require more talent than unboxing toys or talking over video game footage yet I haven’t seen 7 figure paydays

The most unexpected trend of the year is Instagram turning into a Powerpoints-from-woke-millennials social network.

The most common reason you keep needing to sign in repeatedly on news sites is because of cookie handling policies Apple’s made in Safari for “privacy” reasons. It’s interesting that their solution to a problem they created steals traffic from publishes into their walled garden.

It’s going to be interesting comparing the media treatment of Away’s CEO versus Pinterest’s.
