Nope. 100% smooth and rock solid idle at ~900rpm. Then off. No shudder, hiccup, or slowdown. On. Off.

Lab and a lab mix. Their normal meal is raw ground beef with veggies in it. The sardines are just a supplement for that, for their joints and coats. They're older and less active now, so they only blow through about 10lbs a week.

It's not behaving like a fuel issue. No rough idle. No uneven revs. It starts back up instantly and without a hiccup. It's just running one second, and...stopped the next.

She'd probably be very grateful if you helped ratio me by replying and telling me about the wonders of canned pepper. :)

This has been an utter workhorse of a car for 13 years, so this is super unusual. I'm hoping it's just age on some wires or the ECU or ignition...

CX-3 is on my short list once time comes for something new. I tried every make/model vehicle in the CX-9's class (3-row SUV) and nothing drove as well as the Mazda. Drove it x-country 4 times, and it was a joy.

Hmm, I've got a low battery warning right now. That's happened literally dozens of times over the life of the car tho. When it happened to my wife, hers was fine too. The fobs can't start or kill the ignition remotely on this car tho...

My other vehicle is a 10 year old CX-9 and it's been even more reliable! Exactly zero mechanicals. Worst problems I've had were the AM radio antenna busted and the hazard lights stopped working once. I did not expect that when I bought it new. Love that vehicle tho.

This car has been almost bulletproof it's whole life. This is the first problem of any description that I'd call a "gremlin". Had some ignition coils fail in the past, but that was straightforward.

I've considered that seriously. This is a push-button ignition, but I imagine they can have their own weird issues that would cause them to send spurious signals to the ECU like a physical one...

It happened at idle these times, but it happened once at highway speed. It was not like a normal fuel starvation stall tho. It didn't go rough and RPMs dipped. It just...stopped. Like I hit the ignition myself.

LOL I wish. We spent about 15 minutes stuffing dozens of them in multiple 1gal ziplocs and then stuffing those in our large freezer. :)

Oh I know, and I wouldn't be surprised if it were just a grounding issue...but rare doesn't mean never. I mean, I've spent days of my life debugging computer issues that were caused by alpha particles hitting CPUs, so I know better than to count out bad computer hardware. ;)

That's my next step. I got it home and my best repair shop is literally 2 blocks from here, so I've got options now. Hence fishing for ideas on Twitter. :)
