Jim Campbell — Social Distancing Since 2009
Eisner-nominated comic book letterer; former writer (and perhaps again in the future); very occasional artist. NOT the 'Over The Garden Wall' guy…

10 days until 🚀 ComicScene 13. We channelled our inner Rev. Marcus Morris & Frank Hampson to bring you a celebration of 70 years of Dan Dare and the best strips you’d find in any comic anthology. These creators wouldn’t be out of place in a ‘new’ Eagle

Just butter this time. Garlic very acceptable, though. As an alternative, pile a little crumbled Stilton on top near the end, which go obligingly melty. :-)

This is insane. That ‘federal stockpile’ that the individual states, apparently, aren’t allowed to access? When states order their own supplies, the Trump administration is impounding them and adding them to that stockpile.

There will never be a more perfect opportunity/dire circumstance for innovation when it comes to how comics are distributed to buyers. If we go back to status quo when all this is over, with less comic shops still operational, and a distribution monopoly...then who’s to blame?

This photo is perfect. It’s the Health Minister, who didn’t follow government guidance on isolation after a confirmed diagnosis, opening a field hospital, coughing next to a despondent nurse. A single image could not summarise this episode better.

Time-traveling to ‘79, to talk to 12 y/o me: “In 2020, we have hand-held supercomputers” “Whoa!” “There’s a global epidemic” “Oh no..!” “We can’t quite nail Superman films but we’re 1 movie away from completing the ANT-MAN Trilogy” “I... whut?”

What would you like? Anything in particular? I’m assuming you’d like a physical thing (pen on paper) rather than digital…? I’ve followed you back so you can DM me if you’d prefer.

"Why not give it away?" Because market distribution under capitalism requires the destruction of surpluses in order to remain profitable. We're not giving it away because capitalism is structurally unable to survive giving it away. And that goes for everything, not just milk.

Yeah. Also, inexplicably, literally ALL SFX fonts. I have *never* used a curly bracket in a sound effect but I’ve repeatedly wanted to end a fading sound effect with a pair of breath marks.

Yeah — if you just use curly brackets {huff} then most lettering fonts will automatically substitute breath marks.

Again, yes, but bold/italic doesn’t transfer over when we paste text into Illustrator, so we have to apply that manually regardless. You can also bold for emphasis, so still do that in the script so we know to manually bold.

Yep. A little thing, but it significantly reduces the chance of me tracking down a writer and murdering them while they sleep.

Me, at the end of 2019: Y’know I really enjoyed the cons I went to this year. Next year, I’m going to make an effort to go to more and generally try to be more sociable. Me, in 2020: Jeez, I can take a hint.

BROKE: Zoom sucks and you're a loser if you use it WOKE: many people have no choice but to use Zoom in order to keep their job or go to school so we should teach them how to protect themselves BESPOKE: let's organize and force zoom to not suck

Boring answer: shareholders get mad about cash reserves & make companies give them up in the form of dividends or stock buybacks. Jobs saw how close Apple was to bankruptcy when he returned and fought the shareholders to build a cash reserve to avoid it ever happening again.
