Unpopular opinion: Google will buy a enterprise IT company like HPE to increase their cloud market share. HPE understands selling to the enterprise and has jettisoned non-core enterprise businesses. HPE + Google leapfrogs AWS Outposts.

I think they'd need to buy a relevant company. HPE isn't that. Atlassian or perhaps a basket of enterprise SaaS players makes more sense imho

I don't think either of those companies solves their big problem which is selling to the enterprise. HPE in relevant where Google isn't, with the CIO. None of the SaaS players outside of Saleforce are large enough to impact the culture of GCP IMO.

This would not work IMHO. Culture culture culture. HUGE red flags for Google. HPE has to figure out what it is before they do anything else... bc it’s not super clear rn.

Cuz it's super intriguing, could we play this scenario out w/ the parameter the cultures blend? Anything on the tech innovation front GCP+HPE will need to do to leapfrog OutPost? And what about winning against Azure, the hybrid incumbent?

No. Freakin. Way. Google got burned on Motorola. Another legacy hardware centric acquisition won’t get past the board. It’s a pure cloud company. And can find a way to splash down anthos pods if it must.

If they can’t figure out how to buy and integrate enterprise companies then it is best they bow out or this space.

I don’t see Google as having the mentality that they need to buy an established brand. They’re build, not buy.

They brought plenty of things over the past few months. CloudSimple is a great example. Why hire an enterprise CEO and not do enterprise things?

AWS Outposts includes AWS cloud tech on-prem. If Google buys HPE, they get the enterprise sales force, but they have nothing comparable to Outposts or Azure Stack. Plus HPE sells Azure Stack, so we have some conflicts.

Hey, Dell brought EMC and Dell sold Nutanix. I don't think Azure Stack is a big hurdle. It's the ability for Google to inject enough of its self into HPE I'm worried about. HPE has the hardware to compete with Google. Google has the software. 1+1 doesn't always = 2 in mergers.
