1. The Govt is promoting the forest cover and crop diversification in the country by giving free fruit seedlings. Today, I distributed 6,000 avocado seedlings to over 1,500 homesteads in Gatundia and Oljabet in Laikipia County.

I urged the County Governments to help enforce and implement the regulations, to enable the potato farmers get better returns. I also urged the Private Sector to invest more in certified seeds production, warehousing, processing and marketing of potatoes.

The Irish Potato Regulations 2019, will address the prevailing challenges in the Potato Sector which include: Use of extended bags - henceforth, the maximum weight per unit package shall be 50kgs, Quality assurance and marketing and Licensing of actors in the Potato value chain.

3. So far, five regional bee multiplication areas have been developed in Tharaka, Baringo, Kwale, Migori and Nakuru Counties. This initiative will be expanded to other counties with an aim of achieving a national coverage by 2022.

2. Globally, bees are valued for their pollination role. However, they face threats that could lead to their extintinction. The Ministry , is in the process of developing the National Apiculture Policy & National Bee Policy Regulations.

1. On the sidelines of this meeting, I met with the Minister for Agriculture H.E Capoulas Santos in his office. Kenya can learn a lot from Portugal which exports 95% of its tomatoes to the world. Key among lessons here is tomato post harvest management.

2. The meeting comes ahead of tomorrow's International Ministerial Conference dubbed "Ocean Smart Governance" Kenya and Portugal will co-host the 2020 UN Oceans Meeting. Other issues of mutual interest for our two countries were also on the table.
