Support for Trump is aspirational. They want to be like him. They don't support Trump IN SPITE of his moral failings, they support him exactly BECAUSE of them. His sexism, racism, ignorance and vulgarity are the selling point, not a side effect.

The novel actually entitled "Master and Commander" is set in the Mediterranean and the adversary was the Spanish. The movie by that name is a bit of a conflation of various novels from the series.
