As schools across the country start back up this month, CFS wishes everyone a great school year! No matter how you decide to educate your kids this year, it can still be a great one! Now, to just decide if we should wish more luck to the teachers, parents, or students....

We are constantly getting requests from birth parents, adoptees & adoptive families seeking reunification with one another & do everything we can to make that happen. You can also visit Florida's Adoption Reunion Registry for unification help -

We do our best to prepare the women we work with for how hard of a decision adoption will be to follow through with. However, it is impossible to fully prepare an expectant mom for it.

Adoption is a very difficult and hard choice a birth parent makes. It is also a very loving and sacrificial choice. No body grows up planning to place their child for adoption. It goes against a moms instincts to do so. We will never shy away from how hard adoption is for a mom.

Any woman who DOES place their child for adoption through CFS has free, lifelong access to counseling through our agency. We recognize adoption is not one singular event that happens and goes away. It has grief, implications & emotions that can last a life time.

We also encourage women to seek advice and counsel from outside sources, such as pregnancy centers. We do everything we can to stay unbiased but recognize not every expectant mom can believe that. Pregnancy centers truly are non biased & have no association with our adoptive fams

The original post is true. We do not coerce women to give up their children. In fact, we work hard to get them to parent & make sure they know all their options and resources to parent. We never want a birth mom to later regret her decision cuz she didn't know about resources.

From there, it is up to each adoptive family how open they want to be. If an expectant mom wants a more open adoption with more communication, visits, etc., we will not show her a profile of a family who is not open to that. We cannot speak with how other agencies do this.

Yes, the "control" after placement changes. We do our best to educate the expectant moms and adoptive families of this shift beforehand. However, we also require ALL of our adoptive families to be AT LEAST open to sending picture&letter updates for the next 18 years.

We require more background information for our adoptive families than the state requires. We have more references from more areas of their life. We want to be as sure as possible they are who they say they are and who they present themselves to be.

When making an adoption plan, expectant moms do have full control over their decision. Yes, things can change after placement. Again, that is why it is important to research the adoption entity you are choosing & know their reputation & the quality of adoptive families.

Every woman we work with has the option to choose to have separate legal counsel. That is of course their right. It is important to know that if they change their mind at any time before signing adoption consents, they do not need legal counsel to do so. They simply just parent.

Adoption is nothing like human trafficking. Of course the babies don't have a choice in the adoption. They are infants. It is up to their biological parent to decide who will raise this child, and an adoption through CFS is a legal avenue, if they so choose.

Pre-birth matching is something most women we work with ask to do. They want a chance to get to know the adoptive family beforehand. It is not something we at CFS push. Not all moms choose this. Some don't want to choose at all. We respect whatever their decision is.

Please keep in mind we speak for our agency's practices, and do not have control over other adoption agencies or adoption attorneys. That is why it is extremely important to know you you're working with and what their reputation is. We have had a great reputation is our 42 years

There are a lot of concerns in the comments that we want to address. Yes, some of them are valid and true statements about adoption & we won't shy away from those truths. Please continue to read this thread for more information.
