Pres. Trump's counsel Alan Dershowitz: "If a president does something which he believes will help him get elected in the public interest, that cannot be the kind of quid pro quo that results in impeachment."

GOP: We should let the people decide in the next election. Also GOP: The GOP has the absolute right to corrupt the next election to make sure the people don’t get to decide.

If the president is doing it to support his own election, not matter how much he may believe it is in the best interest of the country to be re-elected, it is wrong. Just because he believes it doesn't make it true or even defensible. This is a slippery slope to tyranny.

And even if it is in the best interest of the country that he be re-elected, the act is still wrong, indefensible, and grounds for impeachment.

so typical playbook, always an angle.... so foreign interference is a crime but, if it is in the public interest it isn't?

goes to the same foolishness of a voter of potus asking for a reason behind why potus would do a crime in the middle of 5th ave.. then decide upon voting him again. sad culture, sad mentality, something is wrong.

That is literally the most dangerously insane thing I’ve ever heard. He’s arguing the president can do literally ANYTHING to get himself re-elected. That is the realm of kings and dictators, not a democratic society. It’s what the Constitution EXPRESSLY forbids.

It's only two steps away from declaring himself king "in the public interest".
