Salome Bey — affectionately known as Canada's "First Lady of the Blues" — has died at the age of 86. Bey achieved legendary status during her life due to contributions in both music and theatre, and was an honourary member of the Order of Canada.

Canadian singer-songwriter Salome Bey has died. Her family says the U.S.-born entertainer was 86 when she died Saturday in Toronto. A statement from her publicist, Dalton Higgins, says Bey was known as 'Canada’s First Lady of the Blues.' She suffered from dementia.
