Why don't you just start with that next time, you could save everyone a lot of time and effort.

I 100% agree that is the main thing here. It's all about you and your acquired taste preferences for animal flesh and bodily fluids. Nearly every lengthy argument I've ever had w/ someone against veganism comes down to this: the person just admits their taste trumps all concerns.

It's far more nuanced to condense down to a tweet but this article comes closest to my stance on that: It's also quite different from using animals for a food preference/palate pleasure, unless you don't have access to/autonomy over making kinder choices.

If you are using an animal as an exploitable resource, intentionally shortening their lives to do so, while claiming they are pets, which we would never do to a real pet, that's a lie. It's on you, not me. Do whatever you want with the info.

You are totally welcome to pretend they are pets even though you are using them for their bodily fluids, which will cause them to die early. If that feels like it has moral implications, that's on you, not me. I'm not attached to how you choose to react to this information.

If there was something else we could have done we would have done it. The problem lies with the people who keep deliberately bringing animals into the world that will develop health issues that will shorten their lives, all for some human benefit, be it for amusement or taste.

Are you telling me how to raise my dog? How dare you! Just kidding, I have no reason to be indignant and defensive because I'm not exploiting my "pets." My husband rescued him from a Great Dane rescue years before we met. He died last week. Like your hens his disease was bred in.

Oh please. You are perfectly welcome to lie to your kids, I never told you not to. I never told you how to "raise your kids." I'm asking you to be HONEST about what how these animals are being used. They are not "pets." I understand it's uncomfortable to be called out on your BS.

You wouldn't place the value of the taste of a pet's bodilyy fluids over the ability to extend their lives, so stop pretending these are pets. You are using them as exploitable resources to their own grave detriment. Why can't you just be honest about that?

If you're going to have a "pet" you need to be able to afford basic vet care to extend their lives. That is nothing compared to what we just spent on our dog to try to extend his life and make him more comfortable, all due to a similar problem - health issues were bred into him.

Hit a nerve I guess? You're telling your kids these are pets, but you are really using them as resources and teaching them to exploit sentient beings. We don't willfully allow our pets to develop painful reproductive diseases and cancer when we could do something about it.

"Enough already" what, enough logic? Enough calling you out on your clear inconsistencies? Then stop making them. It's on you to stop lying that farming hens for eggs doesn't hurt them. Dig deeper and learn about the reality for the hens if u really care.

Again, no need to be rude to me and say things like "enough already" & "give it a rest." I'm not saying anything like that to u. The vast majority of hens used 4 eggs are bred in incubators, the vast majority of the males are killed or discarded, and the hens ALL die prematurely.

And "give it a rest"? No need to be rude if I hit a nerve, you can stop talking to me at any time. I will continue to refute your false claims if you keep making them. I'm not having any fun talking to you either, it's more for the benefit of anyone else who may be reading this.

Bam. This exemplifies how disingenuous your claims are. First you're saying farming hens for eggs doesn't hurt them & they're "happy and healthy," then you're saying you'd kill them if not for your kids. Using them for their body fluids shortens their lives, don't tell the kids.

Well you can! A simple and inexpensive implant will stop the hens from damaging persistent ovulation, which will prevent reproductive diseases, dramatically decrease changes of ovarian cancer, and lengthen their lives. But you won't be able to take/eat their ovulation anymore.

If not killed shortly after hatching as they are at all hatcheries, the males are often gotten rid of once the owners realize what a handful they can be domestically. Chicken rescues are filled to the brim with unwanted roosters from backyard chicken owners using hens for eggs.

Maran hens are a breed created specifically for exploitation as a food resource, matters not if they aren't common on larger farms. Like I said it's rare to allow hens used for eggs to hatch their own eggs, it's not scalable. Even the very small farm we live near uses incubators.
