Internior Health announces a Covid 19 outbreak among temporary foreign workers at Bylands Nursery in West Kelowna. Workers have been in quarenteen since March 27th. Workers came to Kelowna area from out of country on March 12th. IH doesn’t say how many cases there are.

Now Dr. Silviana Mema is on our afternoon show saying the quarantine at the tree nursery involves 63 foreign workers and 10-12 local workers.

She says these workers arrived before the order was in place that anyone coming in from out of country had to be in 14 day quarantine, so that may have lead to some spread of the infection.

IH says the risk to the public is low as the workers didn’t have contact with customers at the nursery. The business is now closed.

Interior Health now saying the outbreak at Bylands Nursery is 14 infections with some more results yet to come. And clarifying this was at the nursery and not the Bylands Garden Center.

On a personal note, this news hits a bit close to home. The nursary and garden center are near where we live. Our family shops there a fair bit. The staff is friendly, helpful and kind. I’m sure it must be a tough time for them all.

They should have been quarantined upon their arrival into Canada. Not just since the 27th.
