Struggle to see how Hafez al-Assad Jn - the teenage son of Bashar al-Assad - is a channel to 'illicitly fund the regime' or am i missing something. At least say you are sanctioning a 19 year old for political/symbolic reasons.

If you ask the Mujahedin of Thinktankistan, these sanctions only affect war criminals, and saying otherwise is pro-Assad propaganda. In the real world, however, even the Syrian Network for Human Rights was barred from opening an account in a French bank.

This clip reminds me of a story recounted to me by someone who worked for a Western NGO in Lebanon who was directed by their seniors to only help Syrian refugees who were anti-government, which in many cases was the minority of those who needed help.

Nowhere have I seen cancel culture applied more than in the area of Syria analysis. Cancel culture was so prevalent & effective that the truth-tellers were dismissed as conspiracy theorists & cranks while the think tank pundits ubiquitous in media were in actuality the frauds.

Smart Syria article by Kamal Alam. He explains how every major US statesmen of the last 40 years w Syria experience - Kissinger, Brzezinski, Scowcroft, Burns - have argued that talking to Syria is the way to achieve US interests in the region.

If whoever apparently has read/write access to every verified Twitter account also has access to those accounts' DMs, this could make the Sony hack look tiny.
