I have my clients but like, I definitely have a long list of sketchy companies I actively do not support.

I would love to contribute. Everyone email me the good companies I should be supporting and I’ll only do PR for them.

Except maybe it is. Maybe you choose to buy a game that isn't hot because you want to support the company. It's a two-way street. Capitalism only works if the consumers stop being sheep and start being informed about whom and what they give their money to.

Stop falling into blind marketing traps and be an informed consumer. Hundreds of people do reviews and good in-depth content on games, often for free. Look for creators that care enough to look into the company. That aren't just saying they love a game because it's play.

Pay attention. Even if a company seems small, seems like it cares, there's a good chance it's owned by a bigger company going for "indie money." Or is a rebrand of a company that absolutely destroyed it's reputation. It's not hard to figure out. Just pay attention.

You have this in any industry, yes, but it's so much more obvious in our small little board game world. Here's a suggestion, folks: Look at the small companies. Look at the ones doing 1-3 titles a year. Look at the ones that seem to care about each title uniquely.

Buying a game because it's pretty or hot or plays amazing means shit-all if the company is a dumpster fire. You're saying you support the company when you buy their games. A game isn't worth that, no matter how amazing.
