This is one of these things where it's obvious people use their devices in different ways. I never had access to my PhD email on my phone, not for some 'work-life-balance' reason, but because I'd always rather deal with emails on a big screen with a keyboard.

Geology at Sedbergh School 🌋🦖🌏 Oct 17
One of my A Level students found this a few months ago, whilst on holiday in Eyemouth, Scotland. We think that it might be a trace fossil. Are we correct?

We'd like to thank Harry Leah, who recently shared this mesmerising sample with us. This is a localised calcite shear zone formed within a limestone block as it was subducted 550 million years ago! Submit your sample and be in for a chance to win a iPad👉

And Wildlife Photographer of the Year 2019 is... Yongqing Bao. Selected from over 48,000 entries, Yongqing’s shot frames a battle for survival. Combining humour & horror, the image captures an unforgettable moment between a Tibetan fox and a marmot. Congrats, Yongqing!

No, it'll be at the collections centre in Granton. I don't think I'll be let near the display specimens for a while, lest I slice them all into thin sections.

My instinct is that meteorites are common enough for people to buy bits to do whatever they want with. The fact that the product here is openly acessible is great. Sure, it's a gimmick, but it's better than what most crystals end up being sold/used for.

USGS volcanologist Mike Poland explains "Why I dislike the term 'supervolcano'". I admit that I absolutely don't like it either, because it's sensationalistic and misleading. It should be put to rest and "caldera systems" used instead.

This beautiful slab of has lost its locality/geol data (NOT in the , I hasten to add!). While lost data can never be completely recovered, some useful attributions can sometimes be made. Does anybody recognise this particular ?
