J.D. Martinez -- 'Starting pitching is our strength. It’s one of our biggest strengths. They set the tone for the game. Eduardo did a really good job of that in the last couple outings. All of our starting pitching has done a really good job the last couple outings.'

Mookie Betts -- 'Sometimes you just want to sit back and chill and kind of coast. You don’t necessarily want to do it, but sometimes you kind of coast through a win. Today was one of those times. We’ll see what happens tomorrow.'

Cora on the offense -- 'We’re controlling the zone. It’s just a matter of getting that big hit. Today we grinded. You could see everybody get on base more than once. We walked 10 times. We put good at-bats.'

Cora on Rodriguez -- 'That’s a right-handed dominant lineup and everybody’s looking for the fastball and the changeup on the outside part of the plate. For him to expand the zone down and in to righties, (the slider) was a good pitch for him tonight.'

Alex Cora on Eduardo Rodriguez -- 'You guys know I’m hard on him. Everybody is, because we know how good he can be. It’s good to see him compete at this level this way. We expect him to do that every time he goes out there. Go deep into games and dominate.'

Rodriguez on Cabrera -- 'No matter who you ask in my country about Miguel Cabrera they’re going to tell you he’s a legend. He’s a future Hall of Famer. To have the opportunity to face him and enjoy every time I face him, I’m going to thank God for that opportunity.'

Rodriguez on Cabrera -- 'I have good relationship with him. To have that kind of respect that we have for each other – especially me for him – it’s something that we do all the time. I just thank God he hasn’t hit a home run yet, because it would be really crazy if he hit it.'

Rodriguez on Cabrera -- 'He says he’s going to hit the ball out of the ballpark every time against me. I tell him I’m going to strike him out. It’s a good relationship we have. He’s a legend from my country. It’s special every time I face him because he’s a future Hall of Famer.'

Eduardo Rodriguez on facing fellow Venezuela native Miguel Cabrera -- 'He’s been my friend since I’ve been in the big leagues. I think you guys have seen it every time we’re going to face each other. We joke with each other and things like that.'

Rodriguez -- 'He said, ‘Just hold the ball like this and throw it.’ The next day I got the ball, I threw it and I went, ‘Oh, this is moving pretty good.’ I threw it in the bullpen and I threw it in the game today and it was working. I’ve got to say thanks to him.'

Rodriguez -- 'He showed me the grip and I started doing it two days ago. I said, ‘I’m going to throw that today. You tell me how it is.’ I think it worked pretty good.'

Rodriguez on Pedroia -- 'He told me, ‘You want to throw a really good breaking ball?’ I said, ‘Yeah, I’ve been battling to throw breaking balls since I was in the minor leagues.’ He told me to hold the ball like this and throw it like that.'

Michael Chavis walked three times and was hit by a pitch on Wednesday. He reached base safely in four of his five plate appearances. Another good night for the rookie, and it could be the first of many to come.

The second note here about increased traffic on the bases -- that's three out of four games now. Alex Cora might have been wise to something. Also on rookie pitchers and injury updates.

Rather unexpected postgame comments from Eduardo Rodriguez. Employed a different slider grip tonight taught to him by.....Dustin Pedroia. Never a dull moment around here.
