FWIW, my approach is to turn off all notifications and badges for email, Slack, Twitter, Facebook, etc. and then only check them when I feel like it, which is … not often.

Hi , is there a way to restrict a search to only top-level messages, and exclude results in threads? Use case is I want to search an AMA channel for where a certain user asked a question. I didn’t find anything in your Search doc:

We need to start proudly labelling games made without employee crunch. A little sticker that lets you know that the experience you’re enjoying didn’t hurt the devs who made it. I’m not entirely un-serious.

Somehow they look exactly as I’d draw them if someone said “Imagine if Andrew Yang enthusiasts made custom sneakers.”

For me it was the “Salem’s Lot” TV series. I subsequently had recurring nightmares of a vampire floating by my bedroom window at night. Good times, thanks older siblings for showing it to me at the age of 5!

It works: Set goals and accountability for diversity and inclusion like other business priorities. "Inclusion and diversity is not only a value; it’s foundational to making the best decisions and building the strongest teams over time, and we recognize we still have work to do."

At least in IBM’s Slack, the common TLDs like .com and .net, plus .biz (because of our short links) make up the vast majority of URLs. I’m the odd case where Slack doesn’t recognize a TLD, I’ll grudgingly add https and file a big with Slack to fix it.

One final thing … the absolute worst as far as these thing go is when someone includes https://www. AND some horrible tracking query string, e.g. &utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=subscribers_status_change The horror … the horror …

That’s funny you should say that. I’ve been helping fix this in their new rich text editor, as it initially regressed the behavior by missing a bunch of non-standard TLDs like .biz and .me! My approach is to tenaciously fix the software, not punish the humans!

… this URL use?” If they understand the web enough to ask the question, they’ll understand what the default behavior will be. So in any case, no value add for the user, just visual noise. And don’t get me started on www. 😅

… signal-to-noise ratio for human users. In the odd 0.001% case that someone needed an ftp:// URL (or whatever), then you include it, because it’s necessary for the client to successfully GET the resource. Most people don’t even think about “what protocol might …

The protocol part of the URL is part of the “how.” The other part of the “how” is the method, e.g. GET, PUT, etc. When you omit the verb, everything defaults to GET. If you omit http://, everything defaults to GET http://... So, extraneous information and reduced …

News media should not have balance as a standard. Truth should be the standard. And if someone takes you further from the truth they should not be given a platform.
