I heard that the Fen Nettle (Urtica dioica subsp. galeopsifolia) resides at Wicken Fen. Have you come across it and does it really not sting?! I like nettles but they are a bit of a pain to harvest!

Replying to @ForestGdnWales
Yes, we have that Nettle here at Wicken Fen & it doesn’t sting. It is easy to see just along the boardwalk, why not come & see it?

I think it would make a popular edible for cultivation (well for some anyway!) Is the collection of a bit of seed harmful/discouraged/allowed?

I think it would be fantastic edible (and mulching) plant for cultivation! I am lining up right now outside the Backyard Larder shop! 😉

Perhaps needs a boggy environment to grow well?

We used to have that in West Wales, not so sure now! If you have any seed, willing to give it a go

There is a plan to visit Wicken Fen now! (which will be great as I went there as a child and it made a deep impression). I will ask about seed :)

I lived in a village called Fordham when I was a young child, just up the road, and I remember trips to Wicken Fen vividly 🙂. Good luck!

I thought I remember a duck decoy there - but can't see any mention of it now. Perhaps that was at another site I visited.
