There's only one Blockbuster left in the world (Oregon). Remember how excited you were to pick out a movie on Friday night? If your mom let you?

Gardens are a form of colonialism. How far they colonize -- how little they learn from indigenous wisdom -- will leave a lasting legacy in geologic time. Gardens aren't causing mass extinctions, but the narcissism they engender is symptomatic of larger "gardens" that do.

1) Why are native plant garden proponents often met with hostility? Because at its core native plants aren't about limiting choices in landscape design or dictating to people what they can and can't do....

2) No, at the center is a calling out of our dominate culture's unwillingness to see how privileging ourselves in a variety of practices has lead to the collapse of everything, and that no matter how hard we try our culture is ending.

"Naturalized plant" doesn't mean it's ecologically beneficial or part of the co-evolved ecosystem; it's just a green-washed term used to defend human supremacy and privilege when it comes to remaking the environment for aesthetic desire.

I had a bajillion asters bloom in my gardens this year and it was not remotely enough. Every year I plant more asters. Every year I lack. Give me asters or give me death.

I'm getting closer to that magical age when I don't care what you think. It's not that I don't respect you or your right to an opinion, it's just that I'm not going to let your insecurities silence me or stop me from being true to my heart.
