Brr! Persistent fog & cloud meant record low temps over 's NW yesterday! Mildura had its coldest day in nearly a century - a record at the airport & the coldest since the Post Office recorded 5.6°C back in 1926! Sunnier today & a mild top of 17°C.

Wangaratta, Rutherglen and Yarrawonga recorded wintery ❄️max temps between 6 and 7 degrees today! The culprit? An extensive patch of thick fog on the border lingered all day, leading to very chilly conditions. Latest forecasts here:

A : Why did get a nice sunrise while didn't, if both are cloudy? The answer: cloud type & height! Tullamarine's clumpy stratocumulus is ~1200m high while Albury's dense stratus is on the ground (fog)! More on clouds:

A bit wet across eastern last night, with the heaviest 24-hr rainfall totals (to 9am today) including 26.2mm at Mt Dandenong, 25mm at Mt Donna Buang, and 23mm at Olinda Creek (Mt Evelyn). 🌧️🌧️🌧️ Observations here:

Did you know "speckled" cloud on the satellite pic indicates cold, unstable, showery weather? Plenty of that in today thanks to a cold front. Snow above ≈900m, with 10-20cm possible. Chance of hail & thunder, mainly near the coast.
