We need to be very careful that the emphasis being placed on what things are called doesn’t blur and then overtake the more important emphasis on young people, their day to day needs and how best to provide them with help and support.

As well as argy-bargy about diagnostic manuals. PDA as an ASD is in the manuals & so has diagnostic codes. DSM all ASDs are diagnosed as DSM-V code 299.0. For ICD it would be any of these: F84.0, F84.8 or F84.9 & specified on reports as "ASD-PDA sub-type"or "ASD-PDA profile".

is not simply a behaviour profile it is an ASD subtype, we need to stop pussyfooting around this fact and spell it out for the NHS and others, not placate/convince them with terminology adjustments.

I have been trying to tell my son's schools for 5 years i think he has PDA and when i got him refered to CAMHS i was told " the doctor doesn't believe in PDA" it doesn't matter anyway a CDC said there is no one qualified in Hertfordshire to diagnose it and we will not transfer.

Those things are not a disorder. I feel like I’m in an alternate universe where ppl accept the most ridiculous things if it makes someone feel better. A lot of this is bad parenting, the rest is normal reaction to an environment that doesn’t fit the autistic child.

Can I ask what are you specifically talking about. ASD or PDA or both and all others?

I had pda sporadically and it’s not autism or a “form” of anything. It’s just a natural yet negative coping mechanism 4 the massive energy and stress you need to do what you’re supposed to, caused by intense environment. Not an illness. I don’t blame drs for not believing tbh.

It is NOT pathological to disagree with ur parents, rebel against expectations or try to avoid things you hate.
